What Is LA Connexion and Why Does It Exist?
Los Angeles is one of the biggest cities in the world. It is also one of the loneliest.
In 2026 nearly 134,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 24 in LA County are neither working nor in school. Families are being pushed out of neighborhoods they built. People who need help do not know where to find it. And the news outlets that were supposed to keep communities informed have been quietly disappearing.
At least one fifth of the United States, 70 million people, now live in a community without a local newspaper or in a community at risk of losing theirs. When a local paper closes, community members experience increased loneliness, disconnection, and diminished local pride.
LA Connexion was built because somebody had to fill that gap. Not with a corporate newsroom. Not with outside voices parachuting in to tell our stories. With the community itself.
LA Connexion is Los Angeles community journalism powered by the people who live it.
Community Journalism Has Changed. And That Is a Good Thing.
The old model of community journalism meant newspapers. Physical papers passed out at community centers, churches, laundromats, and corner stores. That model served its time well. It kept neighborhoods informed. It gave communities a voice.
But the world changed. And community journalism had to change with it.
First came the internet. Blogs and digital publications replaced the printed page. Stories could reach more people faster and at no printing cost. That was progress.
Then came social media. And with it came something even more powerful. The ability to meet people exactly where they already are. Not waiting for them to pick up a paper. Not hoping they would find the website. Going to them directly on the platforms they use every day.
And now we are in the next evolution. Short form video. Reels. Shorts. Digestible content that takes a big idea and delivers it in 30 to 60 seconds in a format that stops the scroll and actually gets watched.
This is where LA Connexion lives. Not stuck in the old model. Not limited to blog posts and written articles. Present across every format that the community actually consumes. Written articles for those who want to go deep. Short videos for those who are scrolling on their lunch break. A podcast for those who want a real conversation. And a resource directory for those who just need to know where to go.
One mission. Every format. Meeting the community wherever they are.
Where People, Resources and Purpose Connect
The slogan of LA Connexion says it all. Where People, Resources and Purpose Connect.
This is not just a media outlet. It is a movement to rebuild the connections that hold a community together. Connections between neighbors. Between people who need help and the organizations that can provide it. Between local businesses and the communities they serve.
When civic leaders surveyed the state of Los Angeles media, people reported feeling disconnected from the city, not understanding how they could keep government accountable, and not feeling that their communities were well represented.
LA Connexion is the answer to that feeling. We cover the stories that matter to the people who live here. We hold businesses and organizations accountable. We shine a light on the problems nobody wants to talk about. And we connect people to real resources that can actually help.
This is Los Angeles community journalism done differently.
What LA Connexion Actually Does
LACXN is built on three pillars:
📰 Community News — Reporting on housing, mental health, workforce issues, and the stories affecting everyday people in Los Angeles County. Written articles, short videos, and podcast conversations that go deeper than the headlines.
🤝🏾Community Resources — A growing directory of organizations, nonprofits, and grassroots groups doing real work in the community. Vetted, organized by topic, and updated regularly so people can find what they need when they need it.
🏢 Community Partners — Local businesses that have chosen to invest in the community they serve. Featured, recognized, and connected to the people around them through the LA Connexion network.
Why This Matters Right Now
The loss of local journalism weakens communities. It reduces civic engagement. It increases reliance on national media that does not know or care about your specific neighborhood. And it leaves people without the information they need to make decisions about their own lives.
LA Connexion is the counter movement. Building the infrastructure for a community that stays informed, stays connected, and takes care of its own.
